Day 3 - 4. March 14 - 15 / March 28 - 29, 2025. Cape Horn and Chilean Patagonia

Cape Horn is the extreme point of the Tierra del Fuego archipelago. It is located on Horn Island in the Southern Ocean on the shores of the Drake Passage, which separates South America and Antarctica. This place is surrounded with legends. Successfully rounding Cape Horn for sailors meant recognition of skill and respect of colleagues. In the past there was even a special tradition. After the first passage past Cape Horn, sailors had the right to wear a copper earring in their left ear, after the second - a silver one, after the third - a gold one.
The thing is that the wind here constantly makes round-the-world way, flying around the planet and not encountering any obstacles, and then a narrow strait appears on its path. As a result, storms constantly rage near Cape Horn, fogs descend and the sun rarely appears, it is not for nothing that it is called the "sea Everest". This legendary place, recognized as a natural heritage of mankind, was transferred under the protection of UNESCO in 2005.
You can get to Cape Horn in two ways, western and eastern. We will decide which one to choose on the spot, depending on the weather. It will not be possible to predict in advance what day and where we will end up, but one thing we can say for sure - for our route we have chosen the most beautiful places in this region. Views of almost untouched nature, Alberto de Agostini National Park, snowy mountain peaks, glaciers, quiet bays, waterfalls, rivers full of mussels - all this beauty awaits you over the next few days.

Meals: breakfast, lunch, dinner
Accommodation: in cabins on a yacht

Day 5. March 16 / March 30, 2025. Caleta Olla Bay

Olla Bay amazes with its landscapes, where every corner seems like a picturesque painting. The trekking routes here are laid out in such a way that travelers can feel like part of this magical world, climbing to the glacier, which stands like a guard over the waters of the channel.
Having climbed to the hill, you will see the Beagle Channel in all its glory, and the Hollandia Glacier will rise majestically before you. Guanacos grazing on the green slopes and condors soaring in the sky will add to the picturesqueness of this picture.

Meals: breakfast, lunch, dinner
Accommodation: in cabins on the yacht

Day 6. March 17 / March 31, 2025. Romanche Waterfall

As you continue your journey, you will encounter one of the most impressive sights - the Romanche Waterfall. From a height of almost seven hundred meters, the water falls into the northern arm of the canal, creating a powerful and mesmerizing flow.
Opposite the waterfall are fjords with the attractive names of Caleta Morning, Caleta Midday and Caleta Evening. These cozy bays offer ideal conditions for an overnight stay and are the starting point for trekking in the area.

Meals: breakfast, lunch, dinner
Accommodation: in cabins on a yacht

Day 7 - 8. March 18 - 19 / April 1 - 2, 2025. Pia Fjord

Pia Fjord, whose name can be translated as "Divine", is rightly considered one of the most picturesque places in the region. It is located in the heart of the Darwin Cordillera, offering travelers unique opportunities for overnight stays and exploration.
Here you can climb the trail to the hill, which offers a magnificent view of the fjord and the Pia Glacier. And for lovers of sea adventures - the opportunity to go on an expedition on a dinghy along the neighboring branches.
At the entrance to the Pia Fjord, during low tide, you can observe sea lions that seem to guard the entrance to this amazing corner of the world.

Meals: breakfast, lunch, dinner
Accommodation: in cabins on a yacht

Day 9 - 10. 20 - 21 March / 3 - 4 April 2025. Alakush Bay and Brecknok Bay

Alakush Bay is the jewel of Chair Island, where the waters of Darwin Sound wash over mussel-strewn shores. In autumn, the area is a real hub of activity: sea lions and their pups hunt for fish, with the latter jumping out of the water in the pursuit, a sight that is hard to tear yourself away from. Walks along the shore or paddleboarding allow guests to truly connect with nature, enjoying every moment.
Brecknok Bay is a hidden gem in a rugged landscape, very close to the Pacific Ocean. Two trails lead to their own mountain lakes, one of which pours out a small waterfall very close to the yacht, which has stopped for the night. From the tops of the hills there is a wonderful view of the yacht and the beauty surrounding it, and from time to time a South American fox runs along the paths in the surrounding thickets.

Meals: breakfast, lunch, dinner
Accommodation: in cabins on the yacht

Day 11. March 22 / April 5, 2025. Puerto King

Leaving early, we continue our journey along the Cockburn Channel, slowly approaching the Strait of Magellan, passing small islands and waterfalls falling from steep cliffs. Puerto King is a piece of paradise where you want to stay longer.
The closed bay surprises with a variety of landscapes: from the Patagonian jungle to the tundra. Here you can have a picnic on the shore of a mountain lake or a barbecue in a secluded bay surrounded by centuries-old trees. Unexpected flowers on the vines describing the trees and rocks attract hummingbirds, which are not afraid even of the snow that sometimes falls here in the fall.

Meals: breakfast, lunch, dinner
Accommodation: in cabins on a yacht

Day 12. March 23 / April 6, 2025. Punta Arenas, the capital of Chilean Patagonia. Flight home*.

The Alacaluf fjord is probably the most severe and majestic in these parts. Walking along a narrow gorge, between steep walls, pushing aside ice floes, you find yourself in a secluded bay, where tons of ice constantly move and fall into the water before your eyes - a sight that leaves no one indifferent.
And now we come out into the vastness of the Strait of Magellan, past another great Cape Froward - the southernmost point of the continent of South America. On the way to Punta Arenas, travelers are accompanied by a school of dolphins, and on the shore civilization and comfort await, an ideal background for memories of a journey among wild and untouched nature. There is an international airport here. Our expedition is over.

BAZILEUS expedition motor sailing yacht
BAZILEUS comes from Australia: she was launched in 1987, in Fremantle.
The yacht was built to a design by Ron Holland, a famous ship designer from New Zealand: a steel hull, a convenient layout, powerful rigging — all that makes her a perfect fit for long-haul expeditions.

Initially BAZILEUS was a part of a fishing fleet, later she was used by dive charters — that is why the yacht is equipped with a hydraulic tender lift to set boats and equipment afloat smoothly.

At the end of 2019 the owner made some hull maintenance and painted the deck.
